Configuring MagTek RMS to update CAPKs
The card brands Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover Card are phasing out some of the old Certificate Authority Public Keys (CAPKs) and have mandated their removal. EMV-enabled card readers are now factory-loaded with the latest CAPKs from those card brands, enabling merchants to accept EMV payments from those card brands.
Merchants must remove the older CAPKs by June 30, 2025, which is 6 months after the expiration date December 31, 2024. Merchants who fail to meet the deadline may incur compliance fees from those card brands through their processor or acquirer.
Organizations that use Active POS with the MagTek iDynamo 6 or tDynamo devices, please follow the instructions below to update the CAPKs on the devices:
• iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/magtek-rms-v2/id6738223218
• Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magtek.mobile.android.magtekrms
2. Select the Connect tab:
3. Select MagneSafe, select the appropriate port (Lightning/USB-C or Bluetooth LE), click Refresh, and then click the device name link.
4. Navigate to the Device tab, deselect Firmware, select EMV Tags/CAPKS only, and click Update.
5. Wait for the update to complete and the appropriate log to be generated.
6. Review the log section above. If there are no errors, the update is complete. If there are errors in the log, check the Firmware option and try again.
7. It is recommended that you conduct a simple live transaction test after this update.
