The Elite and Super Elite Reader's main battery, should be inspected every two years and replaced every five (or as needed). The steps below explain the replacement process. Additional information about the battery requirements can be found in our IPICO - Battery FAQ.
- Remove the reader's lid
- Remove ten Phillips screws and washers from orange retaining strips
- Note: Phillips Screwdriver required
- Remove orange retaining strips
- Remove two Phillips screws near reader's feet
- Remove Card Rack from chassis by lip edge one to two inches
- Remove Power Section from chassis one to two inches
- Note: Remove Card Rack and Power Section at same time. Power Section contains battery and is significantly heavier.
- Disconnect red (positive) and black (negative) ring connectors from battery terminals
- Note: These are held in place by a nut and flat-head screw. A combination of screwdriver and pliers usually makes the process easier.
- Remove two Phillips screws and locknuts from rear of the metal battery restraint
- Note: 7mm Wrench or Socket and Phillip Screwdriver required
- Remove metal battery restraint from chassis
- Remove current battery from chassis
- Insert new battery into chassis
- Reinsert metal battery restraint into chassis
- Insert two Phillips screws and locknuts into retaining strip
- Connect red (positive) and black (negative) ring connectors to battery terminals
- Note: Test reader power by turning the main switch to the ON position to verify functionality. Turn the switch back to the OFF position before proceeding with next steps.
- Insert Card Rack and Power Section into chassis
- Insert two Phillips screws near reader's feet
- Return orange retaining strips to top chassis
- Reinsert and tighten all ten Phillips screws and washers into orange retaining strips
