Many of our older Elite Readers are now at the point where their electronic components are showing the expected wear that comes with age. Users with Delta failures who aren't ready to invest in a full new Super Elite may find that purchasing an Octal card is a more cost-effective option to keep their older systems in service.
As users transition to the newer cards, it's worth noting that these do not include the on-board battery support that allowed the Delta cards to shut down gracefully. As a result, we have introduced the following procedure that should be used to ensure that the reader is powered down cleanly and prevents avoidable booting failures. This process consists of two main steps:

- Shut off the Octal via the oLED screen menu
- Press Enter (bottom) button on the Octal
- Use Arrow buttons to navigate to Shutdown and press Enter button
- Use Arrow buttons to navigate to Shutdown and press Enter button a second time
- Wait for the Octal to fully shut off
- Power off the reader via the normal On/Off switch
