A waiver informs participants of potential risks associated with an activity, and it asks them to agree to assume responsibility for foreseen and unforeseen risks. A properly worded waiver reduces an organization's legal liability. By signing the waiver, the person agrees to free another person, company, or organization from legal liability.
Most organizations have a waiver of some kind that they require participants to agree to. If your organization has such a waiver, we recommend adding it, so registrants can sign it electronically when they register online. However, it is not required to add a custom waiver.
More than one waiver can be added. For example, there can be a standard waiver/release of liability, a medical treatment consent waiver, a photography release waiver. All waivers are automatically made required for all participants at all times during online registration. If someone is manually registered by your organization, he or she must sign a waiver offline and send it back to you, as legally the waiver can only be signed by that person or a legal guardian.
Consult legal counsel regarding your specific waiver text before adding it to your registration form.
