ERROR: Unable to open the serial port. is an error received after upgrading to Windows 10, and attempting to use Tag Scanner and Registration Reader. Tag Scanner and Registration Reader can be used with Windows 10 after following the directions below.
1. Connect Registration Reader to Computer
2. Click Start
3. Type Device Manager into Search Bar
4. Click Device Manager
5. Under Ports (COM & LPT) > Right click USB Serial Device

3. Type Device Manager into Search Bar
4. Click Device Manager
5. Under Ports (COM & LPT) > Right click USB Serial Device
Note: Ensure this is Registration Reader by removing Registration Reader and reconnecting
Note: Removing Registration Reader should make USB Serial Device disappear
6. Click Uninstall
7. Restart computer
8. Click Start
9. Type Device Manager into Search Bar
10. Click Device Manager
11. Under Ports (COM & LPT) > Ensure IPICO DF RR is present

14. Right click Tag Scanner

16. Click Compatibility Tab on new window
17. Under Compatibility Mode > Check Run this program in compatibility mode for:

19. Click OK
