A waiver informs participants of potential risks associated with an activity. By signing the waiver, participants agree to assume responsibility for foreseen and unforeseen risks. A properly worded waiver reduces an organization's legal liability. Legal counsel should be consulted about the wording of an event's waiver before adding it to an event.

Informed consent is an agreement where a parent or guardian acknowledges and assumes the possible risks associated with an activity and gives consent for a minor to participate.

The ACTIVE Network Waiver (see attachment) will automatically be added to each event for online registrations. However, this should not take the place of an organization's own event waiver.
